Day 148: One thing I learned today…
Listening to a lecture through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition with Chritiane Northrup, MD, FACOG. She is a womens health expert focusing on holistic nourishment. She brought a few statistics up which surprised me.
-42% of girls in the first to third grade reported wanting to be thinner.
-81% of 10 year olds are afraid of getting fat
-Only 5% of women have the kind of bodies that are considered ideal by media.
The reality is that young women and men start to think about these issues at such a young age however it is so confusing. Scrolling through social media you find mixed messages. So how are pre teens, adolescents, young adults supposed to navigate this? I encourage conversations with individuals of all ages about learning to listen to their own bodies. This is difficult. I believe it can start with learning to love yourself.
What were your experiences growing up?
