60% of female athletes reported...

Day 157: One thing I learned today...

A healthy cycle is part of vibrant health!

One thing I learned today is that 60% of athletes reported having some type of Menstrual Disorder. Are you an athlete experiencing this? Or maybe you do not consider yourself and athlete however you have some type of issue with your cycle.

Here are a few Menstrual Disorders defined:

· Amenorrhea: absence of menses

· Anovulation: absence of ovulation

· Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding: prolonged, excessive bleeding in absence of organic disorder

· Dysmenorrhea: painful menstruation

· Hypomenorrhea: scant, regular menstruation

· Intermenstrual Bleeding: bleeding between normal periods

· Menorrhagia: prolonged excessive bleeding

· Menometrorrhagia: irregular heavy bleeding

· Oligomenorrhea: infrequent menstrual cycles, > 35 days

· Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: androgen excess, insulin resistance, anovulation, cystic ovaries

· Polymenorrhea: frequent menses, < 21 days

· Premenstrual Syndrome: cyclic recurrence of psychoemotional and physical disorders during luteal phase of menstrual cycle

This is an area in which I am super passionate about. For several, several, several years of my life I have dealt with issues with my cycle. This is not a topic many people talk about. If you want to chat message me!

The next two weeks of my coursework focus on Women’s Health and Sexual Health. I cannot wait to dive in.
