Day 15: one thing I learned today…

Why is a Holistically grown chicken so expensive? These birds can cost us $25 for ONE chicken. Are they worth the price? Maybe the question we should be asking ourselves is why are we able to spend $6 on a whole chicken at the grocery store (think about the mark up prices as well)? Even higher end grocery stores sell organic whole chickens for around $9-10.
The days alive is what it costs-
•Conventional Chicken lifespan is 2.5-3 weeks (even Organic)
•Holistic 10 weeks
Holistic and Regenerative Farmed Chickens
•Cost more & take much longer to grow
Growing Holistically costs about 4 times more because they take 4 times longer to come to full age and maturity – 10 weeks
Are raised with the idea of quality of life
Are provided fresh feed, open air environment with low stress handling techniques
Conventional Chickens
Are raised in dark confined environment
Grow quickly due to a stress response
Do not move around much, high cortisol levels, inactive, young and fat (gain weight and have an inflammatory response)
I encourage you to take a look at the Belcampo Website or listen to the Podcast if you are interested in more information.
Have a beautiful day!
